Darryl James in 2008!!

Darryl James in 2008:

This year has turned out to be a full year, with more opportunities than expected. So much so, that some have to be placed later in the year and some into 2009.

For example, The Black Love Tour will continue in the Fall of 2008. Who’s Your Daddy?--the documentary and the book--will be released in the Summer with a trailer and teaser available in time for Father’s Day. And, the second installment of Bridging The Black Gender Gap will be released in the Fall of this year.

But here’s what is already hot or soon to be released:

What Black Men Think—cutting edge documentary from Janks Morton, featuring commentary from yours truly. What Black Men Think takes on popular myths including the lie about there being more Black men in prison that college, which I’ve tackled in my weekly column. This film provides an in depth view of how myths, stereotypes and misrepresentations render Black men non-necessities in their communities and families. Buy this film and play it for the people in your life who need to listen to Black men speak for themselves. Too many others have spoken for us.

Notes From The Edge—A powerful anthology from Darryl James, one of the most cutting-edge voices of our time. After helping to create hip hop journalism and moving on to write about contemporary Black consciousness, James delves into today’s issues for Black Americana, presenting a view that forces readers to do something that has fallen from popularity—THINK!!

Welcome

ImageBridging The Black Gender Gap is the result of years of research and more than twenty discussions with men and women regarding the growing number of unmarried Black women conducted by author Darryl James (Detective's Affair & The Los Angeles Riots: Three Decades of Revolution).

Bridging The Black Gender Gap challenges the dating selection process, as James admonishes: "You have to look around you and find real examples, because once you are convinced that we don't exist, then, for you, we don't."

The book also challenges dating behavior and dating conflicts, as Relationship Therapist Angel L. Gaines, advises: "People usually have conflict because of the way that they process pain. Until they can pinpoint the way that they process pain, they will use band-aids as opposed to seeking the root cause of the pain. The mentality is that if I can convince myself that I don't want what I really want, then it doesn't hurt as much when I don't get it."

Bridging The Black Gender Gap is a much-needed contribution to the communication needed between men and women.

"Black women, stop saying that you can't find a good Black man, or that we just don't exist," says James. "Come at us in love and what you will find from many of your brothers is real love-we're trying to find you and we want you, too."
